PUBLICATIONS ABOUT THE PATRIARCH'S PALACE
CloseOnly three historical monuments of the 17th-century civil architecture have been preserved behind the Moscow Kremlin's walls. This book is about one of them - the Patriarch's Palace. The edifice was built by Russian masons upon Patriarch Nikon's order in 1655 and was organically incorporated into the ancient architectural ensemble of the Kremlin's Cathedral Square. Thanks to massive renovation work, the original appearance of the private and official rooms, as well as the private Church of the Deposition of the Virgin’s Robe has been restored, while the exhibits of the Museum of Applied Art and Life Style of 17th-century Russia helped reconstruct the Palace's magnificent interior. A fascinating story of the Russian clerical leaders' residence, its ancient appearance and its unique exposition, is told by the Museum curator who has devoted much of her time and talent to the study of the Moscow Kremlin's architectural masterpiece.
